01 — The sneak-peek
Ten years of making the case for the arts
Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) exists to bring corporate South Africa and the arts together. For ten years, BBA Liminal was the lead creative agency for its annual Awards — renewing the theme each year, commissioning trophy art editions, and stewarding the brand that held the partnership in the public eye.

02 — The liminal moment

The BASA Awards live at a threshold — between business and the arts, two worlds that do not always see why they need each other. Established in 1997 as a joint initiative of the Department of Arts and Culture and the corporate sector, BASA is an internationally recognised development agency that encourages partnerships between business and the arts. Its Awards, launched over twenty years ago, exist to make one case, year after year: that corporate South Africa should invest in the country's arts.

For ten years, BBA Liminal handled the design and creative direction of the annual Awards, managed BASA's integrated brand through several refreshes, and produced its research and annual reports. The brief renewed itself each year with a fresh theme. The deeper task was constancy: keeping a recurring platform alive and meaningful across a decade, with BASA's purpose held at its centre.
04 — The craft
When business and the arts collaborate
A decade of annual Awards, each built around a fresh theme; trophy art editions that became collectors' pieces; the #artMOVESme wheatpaste installation on tour; and the brand, research and annual reports that held it all together.
